Quality Indicator Framework
Full Form of QIF
What is QIF?
The Quality Indicator Framework (QIF) is a structured assessment tool developed by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to evaluate the quality of higher education institutions (HEIs) in India. It comprises seven core criteria—Curricular Aspects, Teaching-Learning and Evaluation, Research and Innovation, Infrastructure and Learning Resources, Student Support and Progression, Governance and Leadership, and Institutional Values and Best Practices. Each criterion is further divided into key indicators with specific metrics that institutions must self-report in their Self-Study Report (SSR). The QIF is used during the accreditation process, typically every five years, to assign a grade (e.g., A++, A+) based on cumulative scores. For students and educators, understanding the QIF is essential as NAAC accreditation influences institutional reputation, funding, and employability of graduates. It is widely referenced by colleges and universities across India when preparing for peer review visits. In competitive exams like UGC NET, questions on NAAC's QIF criteria and its role in quality assurance are common.
