Quality Governance Initiative
Full Form of QGI
What is QGI?
The Quality Governance Initiative (QGI) is a framework adopted by certain Indian state and central government departments to systematically improve public service delivery through process standardization, citizen feedback integration, and performance auditing. Originating from the broader good governance reforms of the early 2010s, QGI focuses on measurable outcomes such as reduced service turnaround times, increased transparency in grievance redressal, and higher citizen satisfaction scores. It is implemented in sectors like municipal services, land records, and welfare distribution, often coordinated by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG). The initiative employs tools like ISO 9001 certification for government offices, mystery audits, and digital dashboards for real-time monitoring. While not a statutory mandate, QGI has been piloted in urban local bodies across states like Gujarat, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh. Examination relevance: QGI is a topic in the Indian Polity and Governance section of the UPSC Civil Services Exam, particularly in the context of public administration reforms and e-governance initiatives.
