Post Graduate Entrance
Full Form of PGE
What is PGE?
Post Graduate Entrance (PGE) refers to the set of competitive examinations conducted by universities, national boards, and professional bodies in India for admission into postgraduate programs such as Master’s degrees (M.A., M.Sc., M.Com, M.Tech, MBA, etc.), as well as specialized diplomas and doctoral preparatory courses. These exams are typically held annually or biannually and serve as a screening mechanism to select candidates based on their domain knowledge, analytical skills, and sometimes general aptitude. PGE is widely used across Indian states and union territories, with prominent examples including the University of Delhi Post Graduate Entrance Test (DU PGET), Jamia Millia Islamia Post Graduate Entrance, and state-level PGEs like those for Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. For medical and engineering streams, national-level tests such as NEET PG and GATE function as the primary PGE, while management institutes rely on CAT, XAT, or GMAT. The term PGE is frequently mentioned in academic calendars, admission brochures, and student forums. For students aiming for higher education, understanding the specific PGE pattern, syllabus, and cutoff is crucial for strategic preparation. In many competitive exams like those for central universities, a good PGE score can significantly boost a candidate's merit rank.
