Pakistan Air Force
Full Form of PAF
What is PAF?
The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) is the aerial warfare branch of the Pakistan Armed Forces, primarily tasked with the defence of Pakistani airspace and providing air support to ground and naval forces. In an Indian context, the PAF is frequently referenced in defence analyses, military histories, and strategic discussions due to the longstanding geopolitical rivalry and the history of armed conflicts between India and Pakistan. The PAF operates a fleet of fighter aircraft, transport planes, and helicopters, with its major bases located near the Indian border. It has been involved in all major India-Pakistan wars, including 1965, 1971, and the 2019 Balakot incident. For Indian defence aspirants, understanding the PAF's capabilities, order of battle, and strategic doctrine is essential for competitive exams such as the UPSC CDS, NDA, and SSB interviews, where questions on India's neighbours and their military strengths are common. The PAF also collaborates with other air forces through joint exercises and maintains a focus on modernisation, including the induction of JF-17 Thunder and Chinese-origin systems.
