Open Vocational Education
Full Form of OVE
What is OVE?
Open Vocational Education (OVE) refers to a flexible learning pathway that combines open schooling principles with vocational training, aimed at equipping students with practical skills alongside academic knowledge. In India, OVE is primarily offered through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and various state open schools, allowing learners who cannot attend traditional institutions to acquire industry-recognized skills. OVE courses cover trades like IT, healthcare, hospitality, and agriculture, and are designed to align with the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF). This system is particularly relevant for dropouts, working professionals, and students in underserved areas, enabling them to complete Class 10 or 12 while gaining vocational certification. OVE is used in both formal and informal education settings, including distance learning programs and skill development initiatives under schemes like Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. For competitive exams like SSC, UPSC, and state teaching eligibility tests, awareness of OVE as part of India’s open education system may appear in general knowledge or education policy questions. The model promotes lifelong learning and employability, bridging the gap between academic education and workforce demands.
