National Wildlife Week
Full Form of NWW
What is NWW?
National Wildlife Week (NWW) is an annual observance in India dedicated to raising awareness about the conservation and protection of the country's rich biodiversity. It is celebrated from 2nd to 8th October every year, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who had a deep reverence for nature. The week is organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) in collaboration with state forest departments, wildlife institutes, NGOs, and educational institutions. Activities include wildlife exhibitions, nature walks, seminars, quiz competitions, and tree plantation drives across schools, colleges, and wildlife sanctuaries. The aim is to educate the public, especially youth, about the importance of preserving endangered species and their habitats. National Wildlife Week also highlights the role of protected areas like national parks and tiger reserves in maintaining ecological balance. For students preparing for competitive exams such as UPSC, SSC, and state civil services, questions related to NWW often appear under environment and ecology sections. It serves as a reminder of India's commitment to global wildlife conservation goals and the need for sustainable coexistence with nature.
