National Nutrition Registry
Full Form of NNR
What is NNR?
The National Nutrition Registry (NNR) is a digital database initiative launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development under the POSHAN Abhiyaan (Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition) in India. It systematically records anthropometric measurements—such as weight, height, and mid-upper arm circumference—of children under five years of age, adolescent girls, and pregnant/lactating women across Anganwadi centres nationwide. The NNR enables real-time tracking of malnutrition indicators like stunting, wasting, and anaemia, allowing health officials and policymakers to identify high-burden districts and implement targeted nutritional interventions. This registry is used by Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) functionaries, state health departments, and researchers to monitor progress and evaluate the impact of supplementary nutrition programmes. For students preparing for competitive exams such as UPSC, state civil services, and health-related exams, understanding the NNR is crucial, as questions often appear on government initiatives for maternal and child health. The registry aligns with India’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goal of zero hunger and aims to bring down malnutrition rates by 2025 through data-driven governance.
