National Manufacturing Zone
Full Form of NMZ
What is NMZ?
A National Manufacturing Zone (NMZ) is a specially designated geographic area in India with enhanced infrastructure, streamlined regulations, and fiscal incentives to promote large-scale manufacturing. Established under India’s National Manufacturing Policy (NMP) announced in 2011, NMZs aim to increase the manufacturing sector’s share in the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from around 16% to 25% and create millions of jobs. These zones are typically developed along industrial corridors such as the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and are managed by a unified single-window clearance system to attract both domestic and foreign investment. NMZs focus on specific sectors including automobiles, electronics, textiles, and pharmaceuticals, providing plug-and-play infrastructure like power, water, and logistics. They are referenced in government policy documents, budget speeches, and competitive examinations like the UPSC Civil Services and RBI Grade B, where questions on industrial policies and economic reforms are common. NMZs complement other initiatives like Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and are integral to campaigns like Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
