Non-Governmental General Organization
Full Form of NGGO
What is NGGO?
A Non-Governmental General Organization (NGGO) is a non-profit, voluntary entity that operates independently of government control and works towards general public welfare, social development, and community upliftment. In India, NGGOs function alongside NGOs and play a vital role in areas like rural development, women empowerment, environmental conservation, health awareness, and education. These organizations are typically registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860, the Indian Trusts Act of 1882, or Section 8 of the Companies Act of 2013. NGGOs rely on grants, donations, and CSR funding from corporate entities to sustain their operations across both urban and rural India. They often collaborate with central and state government bodies to implement welfare schemes at the grassroots level. Many NGGOs also receive foreign contributions under the FCRA framework after proper registration. Aspirants preparing for UPSC, SSC, and state public service commission examinations frequently encounter questions about the structure, funding, and regulatory aspects of such voluntary organizations.
