National Federation of the Blind
Full Form of NFB
What is NFB?
The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) is the leading grassroots organization of blind persons in India. Established to promote the rights, education, and employment of visually impaired individuals, NFB works tirelessly to create an inclusive society. It was founded by Dr. J.N. Sharma and others who believed that blind people themselves should lead the movement for their upliftment. NFB operates across Indian states, running training centres, braille libraries, and skill development programmes. It also advocates for policy changes, such as accessible public transport and digital inclusion. The federation regularly conducts awareness campaigns, legal aid workshops, and job fairs. In the context of Indian competitive exams like UPSC or SSC, NFB appears in questions related to disability rights, social justice, and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. Its work aligns with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). NFB members also participate in state-level braille competitions and assistive technology expos. Through its network, NFB empowers thousands of blind Indians to lead independent lives, challenging societal stereotypes and demanding equal opportunities in every sphere of life.
