What is NEXT11?
The Next Eleven (NEXT11) is a term coined by Goldman Sachs in their 2005 report to describe a group of eleven emerging economies with strong potential to become the world's largest economies in the 21st century, following the BRICS nations. The countries included are Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Turkey, and Vietnam. India, while not part of the formal NEXT11 list (as it belongs to BRICS), is often discussed alongside these nations due to its similar growth trajectory. The concept is used by economists, investors, and policymakers to identify high-growth markets for trade, investment, and strategic partnerships. In India, the NEXT11 framework is relevant for understanding global economic shifts, particularly in sectors like manufacturing, technology, and services. The term also appears in competitive exams such as UPSC, SSC, and banking exams where questions on global economic groupings are common. While the NEXT11 has faced criticism for its predictive accuracy, it remains a useful heuristic for analyzing emerging market dynamics and India's position in the global economy.
