Model United Nations
Full Form of MUN
What is MUN?
Model United Nations (MUN) is an educational simulation of the United Nations in which students take on roles as delegates representing different countries, non-governmental organizations, or other entities to debate and resolve global issues. In India, MUN has become a popular extracurricular activity in schools, colleges, and universities, fostering skills in diplomacy, public speaking, research, negotiation, and critical thinking. Conferences are held regularly in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore, often organized by student societies or educational institutions. Participants engage in committee sessions, draft resolutions, and vote on policies mirroring actual UN procedures. MUNs are especially relevant for students of international relations, political science, and law, and are often cited in college applications and competitive exams like the UPSC Civil Services as evidence of leadership and analytical skills. The experience also prepares students for careers in diplomacy, law, and policy-making. Whether as part of a school club or a national-level conference, MUN provides a platform for Indian youth to engage with pressing global challenges and develop a nuanced understanding of international affairs.
