Mata Mahila Mandal
Full Form of MMM
What is MMM?
Mata Mahila Mandal (MMM) is a community-based women's organisation operational primarily in rural India. It functions as a collective forum for women to address social, economic, and health-related issues at the village level. Under various government schemes such as the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) and state-level women empowerment programs, MMMs act as facilitators for self-help groups (SHGs), microfinance initiatives, and awareness campaigns on nutrition, sanitation, and legal rights. These mandals are typically registered under the Societies Registration Act and receive support from block-level women development officers. The concept gained prominence in the 1990s with the emphasis on grassroots participation and Panchayati Raj institutions. In Indian competitive exams like UPSC and state civil services, questions on women's organisations and their role in rural development frequently appear, making MMM a relevant term for aspirants. The organisation serves as a bridge between government welfare schemes and rural women, ensuring last-mile delivery of services and fostering collective bargaining power.
