Mutual Fund Distributor
Full Form of MFD
What is MFD?
A Mutual Fund Distributor (MFD) is a certified individual or entity registered with the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) that acts as an intermediary between investors and mutual fund houses. MFDs help investors select suitable mutual fund schemes based on their financial goals, risk appetite, and investment horizon. They provide guidance on various fund types such as equity, debt, hybrid, and tax-saving funds, and assist in completing the know-your-customer (KYC) process, submitting applications, and managing redemptions. In India, MFDs play a vital role in expanding the reach of mutual funds, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 cities where direct awareness is low. They earn a commission from the asset management company (AMC) for the assets they bring in. The role of an MFD has evolved with digital platforms, yet they remain trusted advisors. For students preparing for banking or financial examinations such as SEBI, NISM, or AMFI certifications, understanding the MFD's responsibilities is important as questions often cover distribution channels, registration requirements, and regulatory aspects.
