Association of Mutual Funds in India

What is AMFI?

The Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) is the apex industry body representing all registered Asset Management Companies (AMCs) in the country. Established in 1995, AMFI works closely with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to promote transparency, ethical practices, and investor awareness in the mutual fund industry. It formulates codes of conduct for its members, conducts training and certification programs for intermediaries, and disseminates market data and reports. AMFI also operates the Mutual Funds Help Line and publishes daily Net Asset Values (NAVs) to help investors make informed decisions. Its role is crucial in India’s growing financial ecosystem, especially as systematic investment plans (SIPs) become popular among retail investors. The acronym AMFI is widely used in banking, finance, and investment contexts, and appears frequently in examinations like the NISM Mutual Fund Distributor Certification, UPSC, and banking awareness sections. By standardising practices and educating the public, AMFI contributes to the deepening of India’s capital markets.
