What is MAC?
Media Access Control (MAC) is a unique identifier assigned to network interface controllers (NICs) for communications at the data link layer of a network. In India, MAC addresses are widely used in networking protocols such as Ethernet and Wi-Fi to ensure that data packets reach the correct device on a local network. Every device with network capabilities—laptops, smartphones, routers, and IoT gadgets—has a distinct MAC address, often printed on the hardware or visible in system settings. This identifier plays a critical role in network security, access control, and troubleshooting.
