What is LVS?
Lok Vigyan Sangh (LVS) is a registered non-profit scientific society in India dedicated to the popularisation of science, technology, and rational thinking, primarily through the medium of Hindi and other regional languages. Established in the 1980s under the aegis of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, LVS organises science fairs, exhibitions, workshops, and publishes books and magazines to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and the common public. It plays a vital role in promoting scientific temper among school students, teachers, and rural communities across Hindi-speaking states such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan. LVS collaborates with Vigyan Prasar, NCERT, and various state science councils to develop curriculum-based science communication materials. For students preparing for competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, or CTET, knowledge of LVS is relevant under the science and technology or general knowledge sections, especially questions related to Indian institutions fostering scientific awareness.
