Ladli Samman Yojana
Full Form of LSY
What is LSY?
Ladli Samman Yojana (LSY) is a flagship social welfare scheme launched by the Government of Haryana in 2005 to uplift the status of the girl child and promote gender equality. The scheme provides a series of cash incentives to families for the birth and upbringing of a girl child, with the primary aim of preventing female infanticide, improving sex ratio, and encouraging girls' education. Under LSY, eligible families receive financial assistance at various milestones: a lump sum at birth, annual scholarships from Class 1 to 12, and a final reward upon turning 21 and pursuing higher studies or vocational training. The scheme is exclusively applicable to residents of Haryana and is implemented by the Department of Women and Child Development. It has significantly contributed to the state's improved child sex ratio and increased school enrollment among girls. LSY is often cited in competitive exams like Haryana Civil Services and CTET, where candidates are expected to understand its features, eligibility criteria (e.g., family income cap of ₹1.8 lakh), and impact on social development. The scheme also integrates with national programs like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, reinforcing India's commitment to empowering the girl child through targeted financial and educational support.
