Language, Literacy and Numeracy
Full Form of LLN
What is LLN?
Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) refers to the foundational skills essential for effective communication, reading, writing, and mathematical reasoning. In the Indian context, LLN is a core component of early childhood education and adult literacy programs under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It is widely used by schools, skill development initiatives, and government schemes such as the Saakshar Bharat programme to assess and improve basic competencies. LLN skills are taught from primary through secondary levels and are also integrated into vocational training to ensure employability. Exams like the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) often include LLN-related questions to evaluate teachers' ability to foster these skills. The term is also prominent in policy documents, teacher training modules, and learning outcome frameworks. Strengthening LLN is critical for reducing learning poverty and achieving universal foundational literacy and numeracy by 2025 as targeted by NIPUN Bharat. Overall, LLN forms the bedrock of lifelong learning and economic participation in India.
