Learning Enhancement Programme
Full Form of LEP
What is LEP?
The Learning Enhancement Programme (LEP) is a targeted educational intervention designed to improve foundational literacy and numeracy among primary school students in India. Introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and implemented through state education departments, LEP focuses on bridging learning gaps by identifying students who are behind grade-level expectations and providing them with remedial support. It is commonly used in government and aided schools, especially in rural and underserved areas, as part of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Samagra Shiksha scheme. The programme employs diagnostic assessments, activity-based learning, and continuous monitoring to ensure measurable progress. Teachers receive specialized training to deliver LEP modules during school hours or through bridge courses. For competitive exams like CTET or state teacher eligibility tests, understanding LEP is important as it aligns with inclusive education and child-centered pedagogy. The initiative reflects India's commitment to achieving universal foundational learning by 2025, as outlined in the NIPUN Bharat mission.
