Long Answer Questions
Full Form of LAQ
What is LAQ?
Long Answer Questions (LAQ) are a type of examination question format widely used across Indian educational boards, including CBSE, ICSE, and various state boards. Unlike short answer questions or multiple choice questions, LAQs require students to write detailed, coherent responses that demonstrate deep understanding of a topic, often spanning several paragraphs or pages. These questions are designed to assess analytical, evaluative, and application skills, not just rote memorization. In India, LAQs are a staple in board exams for classes 10 and 12, as well as in competitive entrance exams like UPSC, JEE Advanced (in physics or chemistry), and university semester exams. They typically carry higher marks—often 3 to 8 marks each—and require students to structure answers with introductions, key points, explanations, examples, and conclusions. LAQs are particularly relevant because they test a student's ability to synthesize information from multiple chapters, apply concepts to real-life situations, and articulate arguments clearly. For exam preparation, mastering LAQ answering techniques—such as time management, keyword highlighting, and diagram use—is crucial. From an exam perspective, LAQs can make or break a student's overall score, so practice with previous years' papers is strongly recommended.
