Kerala Zonal Council
Full Form of KZC
What is KZC?
The Kerala Zonal Council (KZC) is one of the five Zonal Councils established under the States Reorganisation Act, 1956, to foster cooperative federalism and inter-state coordination in India. It serves as a consultative and advisory body for states within its zone—Kerala, along with the union territory of Lakshadweep. The council discusses matters of common interest such as economic planning, border disputes, transport, water sharing, and social development. Its meetings are chaired by the Union Home Minister and include chief ministers, ministers, and senior officials from member states and union territories. The KZC plays a vital role in resolving regional issues through dialogue and consensus, thereby strengthening administrative integration. It is particularly relevant for students of public administration, political science, and civil services examinations, as Zonal Councils are frequently asked about in the Indian polity segment. The council meets periodically, and its recommendations, though not binding, carry significant weight in policy formulation and implementation.
