Kerala Qualifying Test
Full Form of KQT
What is KQT?
The Kerala Qualifying Test (KQT) is a state-level entrance examination conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala, for admission to undergraduate professional courses such as engineering, medical, dental, and agriculture programs in colleges across Kerala. It serves as the primary screening tool for students who have completed their Plus Two (12th standard) under the Kerala State Board or equivalent. The exam is typically held in April or May, and its scores are used alongside board marks to prepare merit lists. The KQT ensures a standardised evaluation of students from different educational backgrounds, enabling fair access to highly sought-after seats in government and private institutions. It is particularly relevant for students aiming for engineering degrees through the Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical (KEAM) entrance, as the KQT acts as the common qualifying test. For medical aspirants, the KQT was historically used but has now been largely replaced by NEET. Nevertheless, it remains a crucial exam for many other professional streams. In terms of exam relevance, the KQT tests core subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (for engineering) or Biology (for medical). Preparation for the KQT often involves rigorous coaching and practice, with numerous study materials available both online and in print. The exam is conducted in multiple centres across Kerala and attracts lakhs of applicants each year.
