Kisan Vikas Kendra
Full Form of KKV
What is KKV?
Kisan Vikas Kendra (KKV) is an agricultural extension institution established under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare in India. Its primary role is to provide training, demonstrations, and advisory services to farmers and rural youth on modern farming techniques, crop management, soil health, and sustainable agriculture. KKVs operate at the block or district level, often in collaboration with state agricultural departments and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs). They serve as a grassroots link between agricultural research institutions and farming communities, disseminating information on government schemes (e.g., PM-KISAN, soil health cards) and promoting climate-resilient practices. KKVs are particularly active in regions with smallholder farmers, offering hands-on workshops, farm visits, and resource materials in local languages. For competitive exams like the ICAR, IBPS AFO, and state agriculture officer exams, understanding the role of KKV is important as it represents a key component of India's extension system. The centres also focus on women farmers, organic farming, and post-harvest management, contributing to improved rural livelihoods and food security.
