Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JOP), also widely known as Nhava Sheva, is the largest container port in India, located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. Operated by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), it serves as a critical gateway for Indian maritime trade, handling approximately half of the country's container traffic. Situated on the eastern shore of the Arabian Sea, it is an integral part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region's logistics network. The port was commissioned in 1989 to relieve congestion at Mumbai Port and has since become a hub for international shipping, connecting India to major global markets.
