Joint Operations Group
Full Form of JOG
What is JOG?
Joint Operations Group (JOG) is a specialised unit within the Indian Armed Forces responsible for planning and executing joint military operations involving two or more service branches. In India, the JOG functions under the Integrated Defence Staff and works towards seamless coordination between the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Its primary objective is to enhance interoperability, streamline command structures, and ensure effective use of resources during combined operations. JOG is actively involved in major joint exercises such as ‘Exercise Bharat Shakti’ and ‘Vijay Prahar’, where personnel from all three services train together to simulate real-world combat scenarios. The concept gained prominence after the establishment of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) post in 2019, which emphasised jointmanship. JOG units are deployed in various strategic locations across India and participate in both training and operational missions. For defence aspirants preparing for exams like NDA, CDS, or AFCAT, understanding the role of JOG is important as it reflects modern military doctrine and India's shift towards integrated theatre commands. The group also collaborates with allied nations during joint international exercises, strengthening India's defence diplomacy.
