Jaguar Maritime Variant
Full Form of JMV
What is JMV?
The Jaguar Maritime Variant (JMV) is a specialized strike aircraft variant of the SEPECAT Jaguar, developed for anti-ship and maritime strike missions. In India, the JMV is operated by the Indian Air Force (IAF) and forms a critical component of the country's naval air defense and offensive maritime capability. The JMV is equipped with advanced radar, avionics, and weapon systems designed to engage surface vessels with precision-guided munitions and anti-ship missiles. It is primarily deployed from land bases but can operate over vast oceanic areas. The IAF inducted the Jaguar fleet starting in the 1980s, and the JMV variant underwent upgrades to enhance its survivability and strike accuracy. The JMV is used in combined naval-air exercises and is a key asset in the Andaman and Nicobar Command. Its role is often highlighted in defence examinations and aviation study materials due to its strategic importance in India's maritime security framework. The JMV remains relevant as India modernizes its strike capabilities, though it is gradually being supplemented by newer platforms like the Rafale.
