Jal Laxmi Zindagi
Full Form of JLZ
What is JLZ?
Jal Laxmi Zindagi (JLZ) is a state-level water conservation and women empowerment scheme introduced by the Government of Rajasthan in 2019. It aims to provide sustainable drinking water access to rural households while placing women at the center of water management. Under the programme, a female community volunteer known as a 'Jal Laxmi' is trained to maintain handpumps, monitor water quality, and educate villagers on hygiene. The scheme operates in water-scarce districts and is often implemented in convergence with the national Jal Jeevan Mission. JLZ addresses both water security and gender equality by creating income opportunities for rural women through water stewardship. It is used primarily in government reports, panchayat meetings, and development sector discussions. For competitive exams like RAS, UPSC, and state civil services, questions on JLZ appear under rural development and women welfare sections. The scheme has been recognized for reducing water-borne diseases and improving school attendance among girls by freeing them from water collection duties.
