Jal Kranti Rastra
Full Form of JKR
What is JKR?
Jal Kranti Rastra (JKR) is a flagship water conservation initiative launched by the Government of India in 2015 under the Ministry of Jal Shakti. The program aims to address the country's water scarcity challenges by promoting community-led rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, and efficient water use practices. JKR focuses on creating water-secure villages through integrated watershed management, revival of traditional water bodies, and participatory planning at the grassroots level. The initiative is implemented across various states, with special emphasis on drought-prone and water-stressed regions. Under JKR, model villages called 'Jal Gram' are developed to serve as examples of sustainable water management. The acronym is frequently used in government documents, policy discussions, and rural development reports. For competitive exams like UPSC and state PCS, understanding JKR is important as it appears in questions related to environmental conservation, water governance, and flagship schemes. The program also collaborates with other central schemes like MGNREGA and PMKSY to maximize impact.
