Joint Action Front
Full Form of JAF
What is JAF?
The Joint Action Front (JAF) is a coalition or alliance formed by various organisations, trade unions, political parties, or activist groups to pursue a common objective, typically related to social, economic, or political issues. In India, JAFs are often seen during farmer protests, employee wage disputes, or civil rights movements, where disparate groups unite under a single banner to amplify their demands and coordinate strategies. The term is used in news reports, official statements, and activist communications to refer to temporary fronts that pool resources and influence. For example, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) functioned as a form of JAF during the 2020–2021 farm laws agitation. JAFs are also common in university campus politics, where student unions form a joint front against administrative decisions. While not a permanent structure, JAFs play a significant role in Indian democracy by enabling collective bargaining and mass mobilisation. For competitive exams, questions on recent JAFs may appear in current affairs sections, especially concerning labour and agrarian reforms.
