Jharkhand Academic Council
Full Form of JAC
What is JAC?
The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) is the state board of school education in the Indian state of Jharkhand. Established in 2000 after the bifurcation of Bihar, it is responsible for regulating, supervising, and conducting examinations for Classes 10 and 12, including the Secondary (Class 10) and Senior Secondary (Class 12) board exams. Additionally, JAC conducts the JEE Main-based counseling for admission to engineering colleges in Jharkhand, as well as other entrance tests like JCECE for agriculture and veterinary courses. The council sets the curriculum, prescribes textbooks, and grants affiliations to schools across the state. JAC exams are held annually in February-March, with results typically announced in May-June. Over 4 lakh students appear for the Class 10 and 12 exams each year. The board plays a crucial role in shaping the educational landscape of Jharkhand, ensuring quality standards and equal access to education. For competitive exams like state-level teacher recruitment and government jobs, JAC's marksheets are widely accepted. It also collaborates with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to align its syllabus with national standards. Students preparing for JEE or civil services often find the JAC curriculum foundational. The council's transparency in result processing and online services has improved over the years. Its role is vital for higher education admissions and career pathways in the region.
