Indian Youth Register
Full Form of IYR
What is IYR?
The Indian Youth Register (IYR) is a comprehensive database initiative proposed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, to systematically record and manage information about the country's youth population (typically aged 15-29). It aims to create a centralized repository of demographic, educational, skill, and employment data to enable targeted policy interventions, streamline welfare scheme delivery, and enhance youth engagement in nation-building activities. The IYR is envisioned as a dynamic tool for government departments, state agencies, and implementing bodies like Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) and National Service Scheme (NSS) to identify youth needs, track program outcomes, and promote volunteerism. It is particularly relevant in the context of India's demographic dividend and the need for evidence-based youth development strategies. The register is used during policy formulation, skill development planning, and in conjunction with the National Youth Policy. It holds relevance for competitive exams like UPSC, state civil services, and UGC-NET where youth governance topics are covered. The IYR is still in its conceptual and pilot stages, with pilot implementations in select districts.
