Interactive Whiteboard
Full Form of IWB
What is IWB?
An Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) is a large display screen that connects to a computer and a projector, allowing users to control computer applications directly by touching the screen. Widely adopted in Indian schools, colleges, and corporate training centers since the early 2010s, IWBs replace traditional chalkboards with interactive digital surfaces. Teachers can write, draw, annotate over projected content, and save lessons for revision. In government initiatives like the Digital India campaign and Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, IWBs are promoted to enhance classroom engagement and digital literacy. They support multimedia content—videos, animations, simulations—making complex subjects like science and mathematics more accessible. Many Indian edtech companies integrate IWBs with cloud-based learning management systems. For competitive exams like CTET or UGC NET, candidates may encounter questions on educational technology tools such as IWBs in the teaching aptitude section. Despite initial cost barriers, the declining price of smart boards and increased government funding have accelerated IWB adoption in rural and urban schools. Challenges include maintenance, power supply, and teacher training, but ongoing programs address these. Overall, IWBs represent a significant leap from static chalkboards to dynamic, interactive learning environments in India's evolving education landscape.
