What is IVS?
The Indian Veterinary Service (IVS) is a Group A central civil service under the Government of India, responsible for the management and regulation of animal health, livestock production, and veterinary public health across the country. Established to support the agricultural economy, IVS officers work under the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. They are recruited through the Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and are posted in various states and union territories. Their duties include disease control, vaccination campaigns, meat inspection, dairy development, and implementation of schemes like the National Animal Disease Control Programme.
