International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers' Associations
Full Form of IUF
What is IUF?
The International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers' Associations (IUF) is a global trade union federation representing workers in the food, agriculture, hospitality, and related sectors. Founded in 1920, it advocates for decent wages, safe working conditions, and workers' rights across more than 120 countries. In India, the IUF collaborates with national unions such as the Hind Mazdoor Sabha and the All India Trade Union Congress to support workers in tea plantations, sugar mills, hotels, and tobacco factories. The federation is active in collective bargaining, policy advocacy, and campaigns against child labour and exploitation in supply chains. The IUF is particularly relevant in the Indian context because of the large number of informal and migrant workers in these sectors. It operates through regional offices and holds consultative status with the International Labour Organization (ILO). Students preparing for competitive exams in labour law, social work, or industrial relations may encounter the IUF in questions related to international labour standards and trade union movements.
