Industrial Quality Organisation
Full Form of IQO
What is IQO?
The Industrial Quality Organisation (IQO) is a statutory body established by the Government of India to formulate, promote, and enforce quality standards across the manufacturing and industrial sectors. It works in tandem with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and other regulatory agencies to ensure that products, processes, and services meet defined benchmarks of safety, reliability, and performance. IQO plays a critical role in India's 'Make in India' initiative by providing certification schemes, conducting audits, and offering training programs for quality management. It is primarily used in industrial zones, export-oriented units, and government procurement procedures where adherence to quality norms is mandatory. For competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, and state service commissions, knowledge of IQO is often tested under the 'Quality Infrastructure' or 'Industrial Policies' sections of the General Studies paper. The organisation also collaborates with international bodies like ISO to harmonize Indian standards with global requirements, thereby facilitating trade and reducing technical barriers. Its headquarters are in New Delhi, with regional offices across major industrial hubs.
