Indian National Movement
Full Form of INM
What is INM?
The Indian National Movement, commonly abbreviated as INM, refers to the broad series of struggles, protests, and political actions undertaken by Indians against British colonial rule during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It encompasses the efforts of numerous leaders, organisations, and ordinary citizens who sought to secure independence, self-governance, and civil rights for the people of India. The movement is generally considered to have begun with the Revolt of 1857 and gained significant momentum through the formation of the Indian National Congress in 1885, eventually leading to India's independence on 15 August 1947. The INM includes landmark phases such as the Non-Cooperation Movement, the Civil Disobedience Movement, the Quit India Movement, and countless other mass mobilisations led by figures like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Subhas Chandra Bose. Indian students study the INM in detail as part of their history syllabus from school level through higher education. The subject carries substantial weight in competitive examinations such as the UPSC Civil Services, SSC, state public service commissions, and various banking recruitment tests.
