Integrated Nutrition and Health Programme
Full Form of INHP
What is INHP?
The Integrated Nutrition and Health Programme, commonly known as INHP, is a major welfare initiative aimed at improving the nutritional and health status of women and children across India, particularly in rural and underprivileged communities. The programme was implemented as a collaborative effort between the Government of India and CARE India, with substantial funding support from USAID, and it operated extensively across several Indian states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. INHP focuses on key areas such as maternal care, infant and young child feeding practices, micronutrient supplementation, immunisation, and family planning services, working in close coordination with the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme and the National Health Mission. The programme played a vital role in addressing chronic malnutrition and reducing infant and maternal mortality rates in India. For students preparing for UPSC, state PSCs, and other competitive examinations, understanding INHP is important as questions on government health and nutrition schemes frequently appear in general studies and current affairs sections.
