Indian National Army
Full Form of INA
What is INA?
The Indian National Army (INA), also known as Azad Hind Fauj, was a military force formed during World War II with the aim of liberating India from British colonial rule. It was established in 1942 by Indian nationalists in Southeast Asia, notably under the leadership of Subhas Chandra Bose, who later took command in 1943. The INA comprised primarily Indian prisoners of war captured by Japan in Malaya and Singapore, as well as civilian volunteers from the Indian diaspora. Its soldiers fought alongside the Japanese in campaigns in Burma and northeastern India, particularly at Imphal and Kohima. Although the INA did not achieve its military objective, its existence had a profound political impact. The British trial of INA officers at the Red Fort in Delhi sparked widespread protests across India, galvanizing the independence movement and hastening the end of colonial rule. In modern India, the INA is remembered as a symbol of patriotic sacrifice and unity. For students of Indian history, the INA is a key topic in the context of the freedom struggle and Subhas Chandra Bose's role.
