Human Resource Development
Full Form of HRD
What is HRD?
Human Resource Development (HRD) refers to the systematic process of enhancing the knowledge, skills, and abilities of people to improve their productivity and contribute to organizational and national growth. In India, the term gained prominence with the establishment of the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 1985, which was responsible for education and culture. Until its renaming to the Ministry of Education in 2020, the HRD ministry oversaw school and higher education, including bodies like UGC and NCERT. The concept of HRD extends to corporate training programs, professional development workshops, and government schemes like Skill India. It is widely used in policy documents, exams like UPSC and CTET, and academic discussions. Understanding HRD is crucial for aspirants of civil services, as questions on education policies and national development often reference it. The ministry's initiatives, such as the National Education Policy 2020, aim to transform India's human capital through holistic education and skill enhancement.
