Gross Calorific Value (GCV) is the total amount of heat released when a unit quantity of fuel is completely combusted and the combustion products are cooled back to the initial temperature, including the latent heat of vaporization of water. In India, GCV is a critical parameter for assessing the quality and energy content of fuels such as coal, biomass, natural gas, and petroleum products. It is widely used by power plants, steel mills, cement factories, and other industries to determine fuel efficiency, pricing, and environmental compliance.
