Field Verification Exercise
Full Form of FVE
What is FVE?
A Field Verification Exercise (FVE) is a systematic process conducted by government agencies in India to validate data collected during surveys, censuses, or administrative exercises. It involves physically visiting households, establishments, or geographical areas to cross-check information recorded in databases. FVEs are commonly used by the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, the Election Commission of India for voter list updates, and the UIDAI for Aadhaar enrolment verification. The exercise helps identify errors, omissions, and fraudulent entries, ensuring high data quality for policy-making and service delivery. Field verification staff are trained to interact with respondents, update records, and report discrepancies. In the context of decennial censuses, FVEs are conducted in a sample of enumeration blocks to measure coverage and content errors. Similarly, during electoral roll revision, Booth Level Officers perform FVEs to add or delete names. The FVE is crucial for maintaining the integrity of large-scale public databases. For competitive exams like UPSC Civil Services, understanding the role of FVEs in census and election processes is important for the governance and data management sections.
