Front Line Worker
Full Form of FLW
What is FLW?
Front Line Workers (FLWs) are the healthcare and community workers who operate at the grassroots level, providing essential services directly to the population. In India, this term gained prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic, encompassing ASHA workers, anganwadi workers, auxillary nurse midwives (ANMs), sanitation staff, and other frontline personnel involved in testing, vaccination, and public health awareness. FLWs serve as the backbone of India's primary healthcare system, bridging the gap between government health programs and remote communities. They are deployed across rural and urban areas under schemes like the National Health Mission (NHM) and are often the first point of contact for disease surveillance and maternal-child health services. The term is widely used in policy documents, government circulars, and exam syllabi for public health and social work. For competitive exams like UPSC, staff nurse exams, and public health courses, understanding the role of FLWs is critical, especially in the context of pandemic response and the government's commitment to strengthening primary care.
