Flash Video
Full Form of FLV
What is FLV?
Flash Video (FLV) is a container file format used to deliver digital video content over the internet via Adobe Flash Player. Developed by Macromedia (later acquired by Adobe Systems), FLV became popular in the mid-2000s for streaming video on websites like YouTube before the widespread adoption of HTML5. In India, FLV was widely used by educational platforms, e-learning portals, and video-sharing sites to provide course lectures, tutorials, and entertainment content. The format is optimized for progressive download and allows integration with Flash-based applications, making it a standard for interactive multimedia. Although FLV is now considered legacy due to the decline of Flash Player and the shift to more open formats like MP4 and WebM, many older Indian educational resources still contain FLV files. Students and professionals studying digital media or web technologies may encounter FLV in archival contexts. For competitive exams like UGC NET or GATE in multimedia, understanding container formats, codecs, and the evolution of web video is relevant. FLV files typically use H.264 or VP6 video codecs and MP3 or AAC audio. Despite its decline, FLV remains a notable milestone in the history of online video delivery in India.
