Federation of Gorkha Organizations
Full Form of FGO
What is FGO?
The Federation of Gorkha Organizations (FGO) is an umbrella body representing various social, cultural, and political groups of the Gorkha community primarily settled in the Darjeeling Hills, Sikkim, and other parts of Northeast India. Formed to safeguard the interests of the Gorkha people, the FGO advocates for issues such as linguistic rights, employment opportunities, and political representation. It plays a significant role in mediating between the community and state or central governments, especially during movements for Gorkhaland statehood or enhanced autonomy under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. The FGO is active in public discourse, organizing rallies, and submitting memorandums to authorities. Its relevance is seen in Indian civil service examinations where questions on regional movements, ethnic identities, and tribal welfare often reference bodies like the FGO. The organization operates through local branches and holds annual conventions to set its agenda. While not a political party, the FGO wields influence by mobilizing community support and collaborating with other regional groups.
