European Youth Parliament
Full Form of EYP
What is EYP?
The European Youth Parliament (EYP) is a non-profit, non-political educational organisation that encourages young people to engage in European affairs, debate current issues, and develop skills in citizenship, diplomacy, and leadership. Founded in 1987, EYP operates across more than 40 countries, including India, where it holds national sessions and international forums. Indian students, typically aged 16–25, participate in EYP events such as regional conferences, national selections, and International Sessions held in European cities. These events simulate parliamentary proceedings, with participants drafting resolutions, negotiating with peers from diverse backgrounds, and voting on policy proposals. The EYP experience is highly valued for fostering critical thinking, public speaking, teamwork, and cross-cultural understanding. In India, EYP is often associated with Model United Nations (MUN) circuits and is seen as a prestigious extracurricular activity for college and school students. For students aiming for careers in law, international relations, or public policy, participation in EYP strengthens their profiles for university admissions and competitive exams like the UPSC Civil Services. The programme also offers a unique platform to understand European Union decision-making firsthand, making it relevant for aspirants of diplomatic services.
