Employee Wellness Program
Full Form of EWP
What is EWP?
An Employee Wellness Program (EWP) is a corporate initiative designed to promote the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of employees. In India, EWPs have gained significant traction over the past decade, especially in IT, banking, and manufacturing sectors, as companies recognize the link between employee health and organizational productivity. These programs typically include health screenings, fitness challenges, mental health counseling, stress management workshops, nutritional guidance, and preventive healthcare camps. The Government of India has also encouraged EWPs through schemes like the National Health Policy and by mandating wellness provisions under the Factories Act. EWPs are implemented in both large corporations and small-to-medium enterprises, often led by human resources departments with support from occupational health providers. For government employees, the Central Health Scheme (CHS) and similar state-level programs function as public-sector equivalents. In competitive exams such as UPSC, SSC, or MBA entrance tests, questions on employee welfare measures, labour laws, and HR practices may reference EWPs. Understanding EWPs helps professionals grasp modern workforce management trends, cost-reduction strategies in healthcare, and the legal obligations of employers in India. Overall, EWPs are a key component of corporate social responsibility and employee retention strategies.
