What is EHQ?
An Emergency Headquarters (EHQ) is a designated command and control centre established to manage and coordinate response efforts during natural disasters, public health emergencies, or large-scale crises. In India, EHQ facilities are set up at various administrative levels—national, state, and district—to ensure swift decision-making and resource deployment. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) oversees the national EHQ network, while State Disaster Management Authorities (SDMAs) run their own centres. These headquarters are typically activated during cyclones, floods, earthquakes, pandemics, or industrial accidents. They serve as the central point for collecting real-time data, issuing warnings, deploying rescue teams, and communicating with the public and media.
