Electronic Governance Web
Full Form of EGW
What is EGW?
The Electronic Governance Web (EGW) refers to the integrated digital ecosystem that enables the delivery of government services to citizens through online portals and mobile applications in India. As a core component of the Digital India initiative launched in 2015, EGW streamlines administrative processes, reduces paperwork, and enhances transparency by allowing users to access services such as applying for certificates, paying taxes, registering complaints, and tracking application statuses from anywhere. It operates under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) and is managed by agencies like the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). EGW is widely used across states and union territories through platforms like the Common Service Centres (CSCs) and State Portals. For competitive exams such as UPSC and state civil services, understanding EGW is important as it relates to e-governance models, public administration reforms, and the broader framework of digital transformation in India. The system also incorporates security protocols like Aadhaar authentication and DigiLocker integration, ensuring safe and efficient service delivery.
