Electronic Filing Portal
Full Form of EFP
What is EFP?
The Electronic Filing Portal (EFP) is a digital platform operated by the Income Tax Department of India that allows taxpayers, businesses, and professionals to file income tax returns (ITRs), submit forms, and manage tax-related activities online. Introduced to streamline compliance and reduce paperwork, the EFP replaced traditional physical submission methods. It is used across India by individual salaried employees, self-employed persons, corporations, and chartered accountants to file returns, respond to notices, and track refund status. The portal integrates with Aadhaar and PAN for authentication and supports e-verification via Aadhaar OTP, net banking, or digital signature. Launched in its current form around 2017, it has undergone several upgrades to improve user experience and security. For government exams such as UPSC, SSC, and banking exams, questions on e-filing procedures, deadlines, and related sections of the Income Tax Act are common. The EFP plays a crucial role in India’s push towards a digital economy and tax transparency, making it an essential tool for financial compliance.
